Our Board
Our Board brings together decades of experience in manufacturing, finance and fastening. We asked each member what staples mean to them.
Dame Philippa Ashworth
Non-Executive Director and interim Chair
Dame Philippa joined the Board in 2019 and agreed to act as interim Chair “for a few weeks” in 2024. She also sits on the boards of three other companies, and brings to every meeting a deep understanding of governance and something she read on the flight over.
“To me, a staple is governance in its purest form: two legs, one crown, and no ambiguity at all about who is in charge.”
The Chief Executive
Chief Executive
Our Chief Executive joined Standardised Staples in 2011 from a career in sales and business development, and has led the company since 2016. A keen golfer, he believes most problems can be solved over 18 holes and the rest over 36. He prefers to let the results speak for themselves.
“Staples are about commitment. Once you’re in, you’re in. I look for the same thing in a business partner, and on the golf course.”
Margaret Quill
Finance Director
Margaret joined the company as a ledger clerk in 1989 and has been Finance Director since 2008. She has overseen every budget since, and has personally approved the purchase of every stapler at head office.
“A staple costs a fraction of a penny. Multiply that by four million a day and you will understand why I ask about every one of them.”
Rupert Fairbanks
Sales Director
Rupert joined in 2005 and has since opened new markets on four continents, often in person and usually in the sunshine. He is the driving force behind our export ambitions, and our travel budget.
“Staples mean relationships. Every box we sell is a handshake, and I’ve shaken hands in some of the most beautiful places on earth.”
